Feb. 28th, 2013 01:13 amMaric and Loghain had been in the throne room, holding a discussion over something when an interruption abruptly drove the discussion completely out of their minds. Said interruption came in the form of young Cailan, stomping his way into the room, dripping with mud and irritation. Following his entrance came the form of Anora, taking even and graceful steps in contrast with her arms folded calmly in front of her, though her knitted eyebrows gave away her own irritated state.
Thrown off by the disruption, Maric eyed the two with baffled astonishment, when Cailan broke into a tirade about the cause of his ire.
"Father! Anora said that when we're grown up, she's going to be in charge and I'm just going to stand around looking like a... like a..."
"Troll, I believe was the term I used."
Loghain heaved a sigh, and appeared as though he was about to intervene and order them out, when Maric held up a hand and leaned forward, scrutinizing Anora with as serious a face as he could muster.
"Hm. Well, I don't know whether you're ready to be Queen just yet," he decided with a pointedly grave tone. Anora gave a look of horror, eyes widening as she tried to maintain her calm.
"You... don't?"
"No, perhaps not. For example, what are you going to do about the price of cheese?"
At that, Anora's horrified look melted into a perplexed one, brows furrowing together as she tried to work out what he had said. "Erm..... cheese."
"Yes, cheese! Very important, cheese is, and it's hard to get the price just right. Just this week, three Landsmeets have been called, all of them about cheese."
Maric continued to hold the grave, serious expression, as Anora quickly tried to recall if any such event had occurred over the week. Not that she would be allowed in, much to her dismay, but surely she would have at least noticed... Was he serious? Cailan merely stood to the side, a baffled expression on his features as though the thought of making such decisions was way over his head.
Unfortunately, Maric was never very good at bluffing, especially in the face of such an intimidating adversary. Try as he might to keep his face straight, there was the hint of a grin twitching at the corners of his lips, and though he tried to cover it with his hand it seemed as though the young Anora had caught on. As soon as she did, her brows knitted into irritation one more, and she took a deep breath to try and maintain a calm but firm tone.
"Cheese, indeed! When I am Queen I will call a landsmeet just to make sure such rubbish doesn't waste any time while there are important things to discuss. I also don't see how you can joke about such things, your Majesty." Hmph.
Loghain heaved another sigh at the proceedings, hand going up to slap against his face in exasperation. Meanwhile, Maric's eyes widened with amusement, and he sank back into his chair with the expression of a chastised child who had just gotten in trouble. Once Anora was done, he waited for a moment to make sure, then shot Loghain an amused look, shaking his head before looking at Anora again.
"Perhaps you would like to sit here, you certainly seem to have the right attitude for it." With a wave of his hand, he indicated the throne he was currently sitting in, chewing on his lip to fight back the laughter that threatened to escape. Anora's eyes flashed, as though she would love nothing more dearly, but she quickly reminded herself that she had had manners.
"No, your Majesty, I am afraid that that would not be proper. Although, in the meantime, perhaps you would commission a seat for Cailan to sit in when he's older, since he certainly won't be suited for it by then." At that, she shot Cailan a scrutinizing glance, taking in his muddy appearance and looking triumphant all at once. Cailan merely groaned and looked to Maric for help as both the King and Loghain finally gave in to laughter.
In response to Cailan's pleading look, Maric merely shrugged and shook his head, trying to shake off his amusement long enough to reply. "Don't look at me, son; seating arrangements will have to be fought out between the two of you when you're older. As it is, I'm not sure I'll even have a place to sit come dinner!"

Jan. 18th, 2013 12:24 pmThe hotel, it burns; it smolders, and creaks
The patrons do naught but pull up their sheets
They curl up and snuggle, all warm in their beds
As the flames dance and tickle their heads
Down in the ballroom, the curtains are raised
The orchestra sits poised and ready to play
The dancers arrive to glide through the ash
Making their statements, both bold and brash
As the fire keeps rising, amidst no complaints
Mourning will come as flames lick their remains

They curl up and snuggle, all warm in their beds
